Visiting the twincity of Amersfoort and checking out the quarter behind the station.
In issue number 8 Amersfoort Soesterkwartier of this diary I wrote : the person left on the picture is Harmen Zijp, artist. With him and Joris Vermaessen, teacher cityplanning and inhabitant of the' Flower neighbourhood' in Soesterkwartier, we phantasize about an international exchange on 'rough' carbage. Businesses in second hand goods, thats where this quarter excells in.
It is exactly this idea that made me develop the plan to organize 'a rough garbage twincity exchange' by rail. In Holland a rough garbage collecting day used to be a monthly happening. Everybody puts the things he/she does not need anymore on the street to be collected the next day by the garbagemen. In the night we all went out to see if there were things we could use. Nowaday's we have to bring our old furniture etc. to a Garbage collecting point on the outskirts of our cities. That requests the possesion of a car.

My proposition to the artcommission of Amersfoort is to collect rough garbagein a 'happening like way' in the quarter behind the station in Amersfoort and in the same quarter in the twincity, Liberec . To make an exhibition of it on the stations and then exchange the rough garbage by train. Expose it at the other side and hand out in the twincity households.

In both quarters there are active amateur photo clubs who can report the whole process. The pictures can be exposed.

I travel with my mobile photostudio and picture the people with their own and the newly acquired goods. With this material I design a work of art for both cities that reminds them of and gives an new form to the twincity ship. (doesn't have to be a photographic work) The work of the photoclubs and my pictures can published in a book afterwards.

Although the houses are larger and a former Spa gives evidence to a wealthy past, the atmosphere does resemble the one in Soesterkwartier. A lot of seperate houses, large gardens, a lot of styles. A bit Wild West. Both quarters have an interesting area between the quarter and the station with possiblities for (cultural) development.

This car is a reminder of the communist period.

I love the plan. It will lift Soesterkwartier out of position of a 'deprived' quarter by connecting it internationally to another quarter behind the station. It is a new development in the history of my work, back to performance-like international work I used to do for 17 years of my life in theatregroup Dogtroep. But now in a new, refreshing way.
